Ruth Darlene (Honey) Dowd
Passed away peacefully on April 19, 2017, at Oakridge Healthcare Center, Roseville, CA, after suffering with dementia. Her engaging smile and warm-hearted presence will be truly missed by family and friends.
Darlene was born October 2, 1937 in Rudyard, MI. She graduated Rudyard High School in 1955. On June 21, 1958, Darlene married her high school sweetheart, Bud Dowd. They raised two children, and shared 51 happy years prior to Bud's passing in 2010.
Darlene worked for Eastern Michigan University, before her family moved to Sunnyvale, CA in 1976. She worked for several technology companies in Northern California as an Executive Administrator until she retired in 1997. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, vacations to Hawaii and Michigan, cheering on her granddaughters as they played their various sports, bowling with the Jewels, playing the piano and singing her favorite songs.
Darlene is survived by her son Dean (Trish) Dowd of San Jose, CA; daughter Jill (Rob) Carte of Roseville, CA; and three adored granddaughters, Brittany and Katie Carte and Kaila Dowd. She is also survived by brothers Raymond Salo and Gary (Mary Ann) Salo; sisters-in-law Doris McDowell, Joyce Chadwick, and Beth (Herb) Spring, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents, Toivo and Lempi Salo; sisters-in-law Mollie Langendam, Lora Malaska Salo and Helen Loveless; brothers-in-law Clayton Loveless, John Langendam, Bill Chadwick, Leonard McDowell, Vern Malaska; and her in-laws Fred and Gertrude Dowd.
A memorial service in celebration of Darlene's life will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 1 p.m., at the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, in Mountain View, California.
